Created for Matson Lines’ cruise ship and hotel service by John Kelly, this artwork depicts a tropical nocturnal serenade of a man playing ukulele by moonlight for a reclining woman under palm fronds. The design blends soft figure work, tropical motifs, and atmospheric lighting to evoke evening leisure in Hawai‘i. Kelly was known for art depicting the daily lives of Hawaiian people, hula dancers, and island scenes. Matson Lines and Hawaii-based hotels commissioned Kelly to design menu covers, promotional art, and prints.
