Eugene Savage's richly detailed menu cover transports diners to a stylised tableau of Hawaiian royal ceremony and tropical tradition. Central to the scene is a seated figure of Hawaiian royalty, draped in regal garments, surrounded by attendants and dancers engaged in homage, offerings, and festivities. The lush tropical setting frames a narrative of ritual and pageantry, while bright color and formal composition elevate what was originally a functional menu into an object of visual propaganda and exotic allure. Savage painted a series of nine murals for Matson Lines.
