This Frank McIntosh illustration presents a lush Hawaiian scene centred on a large bloom of the night-blooming cereus, and two Hawaiian women wearing multiple lei. The vibrant floral motif dominates the composition, lending a sense of exotic splendour, evoking both the romance of night-blooming flora and the glamour of Pacific-island travel in the early 20th century. McIntosh (1901–1985) was an American illustrator and designer commissioned by Matson Navigation Company.
